Review: The Dark Knight

“Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?” – This was the only thing missing from The Dark Knight; everything else you could want in a Batman movie was there. (In case you can’t tell, I really enjoyed the movie :-) )

Heath Ledger as the Joker is brilliant; he conveys the demented nature of the Joker perfectly. It’s hard to explain how well he played the role; I think the best example is the Joker’s introduction at the start, and then his final scene at the end of the movie. Ledger really shines as the Joker in that final scene; and for just that one scene, he should win the Oscar.

I was also very impressed by Aaron Eckhart’s performance as Harvey Dent/Two Face. He portrayed Dent’s fall as the White Knight of Gotham and the birth of Two Face very well. You can sympathize with his reasons for doing what he did, and that’s the scary part of the movie. You understand what motivated one of the “villians” of the movie, and could possible see yourself in that same role.

Beyond the acting, the special effect are good. Nothing crazy/insanse or over the top; but it has the right amount to complete the movie. Recently, I’ve been paying more attention to the soundtracks of movies/tv-shows, and I was impressed by the score; it has the right tempo, pace and mood to fit in with the scene. And it works together better than most movies out there.

Overall, Dark Knight was amazing. It is easily the best movie this year; possibly the best movie in last few years. It far outshines the first movie and sets a high bar for the rest of this year, and any follow up Batman movies.
