His house operates off solar and wind power, with a propane backup in case of emergencies. The coolest thing is that he’s using a microwave IP Internet connection from Covad Wireless. While living off the grid might not be the cheapest thing to set up; $26,000 for the initial kit, and then an additional $2,000 for the windmill, it is a great idea. Perhaps the prices would be cheaper if more people started using it.
