Well, I’m bored, I’m waiting for the water to turn back on in my building so I can do my laundry, and since I realized that people might eventually read this, I decided that I might as well post something here. So, here goes a random post for all of you.
First topic… Interest rates. So, I have an account with CitiBank, and had some money that I really didn’t want to spend, and wanted to set aside to save. The logical action then was to get a certificate of deposit, and get some good interest out of it. Now, this is the third year I’m taking finance class at NYU, and I don’t understand the following. CitiBank, for a one year CD, gave me a pretty low interest rate. But the thing that really irked me was that I could have gotten a higher interest rate from the government. Now, if you know a bit of finance, this makes no sense. The government rate should be the riskfree rate, and any other investment should give a risk premium over the riskfree rate. CitiBank was giving NO risk premium. So, why would anyone take CitiBank’s interest rate? (I no longer have a CD with Citibank, I’m getting some treasury bills instead… I would want to trade in stocks, but don’t want to deal with capital gains/loss tax issues.) This is just something interesting that I noticed, and don’t understand why it’s happening.
Next…anyone have any ideas how to lose weight? Apparently, I didn’t get the freshman 15, I didn’t gain anything over sophomore year, but over just the summer I gained over 10 pounds… Now, I’ve been trying to loose this, but my “fail proof” plan hasn’t worked. My fail proof plan is well based in scientific theory, bio that I still remember from 10th grade, crazy Mrs. Bott… Ok, so basically, if you use more calories than you eat in a day, you should burn some fat to cover the difference, right? But, it hasn’t worked yet me… So, taking suggestions now I guess?
Hmm, so I think this is long enough, and I should save something for the next time I get this bored… So, I’ll leave you with some song lyrics that are stuck in my mind. Since they are in Hindi, I don’t know if you will understand them… Ask me and I might tell you what they mean…
ek la.Dakii ko dekhaa to aisaa lagaa, jaise
khilataa gulaab, jaise
shaayar kaa khvaab, jaise
ujalii kiran, jaise
Till next time…
